The Toyota Camry and the Ford Fusion are both equipped with standard 2.5L 4-cylinder engines. However, the Toyota engine has seen some upgrades that boost its power.

In the Camry, Dynamic Force and Dual Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence work together to streamline power-flow. This allows the sedan to generate as much as 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.

The Ford Fusion lacks Dynamic Force, which seems to impact its output considerably. It maxes out at 175 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. To get power comparable to the competitor, you’d have to upgrade a few trim levels.

Conserving Gas with Smart Transmissions

There are two different transmission available in the Camry. The first is an 8-speed electronically control automatic transmission with intelligence. The second is an electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). As you progress through these transmission options, you see shorter gear ratios that help the car to conserve fuel.

With its standard configuration, the Toyota Camry is able to conserve an EPA-estimated 41 MPG highway and 29 MPG city.1 While cruising the highway, you shouldn’t have to make many stops at the gas station.

In the Ford Fusion, you’ll only have the option of equipping an automatic 6-speed transmission. As this lacks the gear ratios of the competitor, fuel economy is lowered. It standard is an EPA-estimated 31 MPG highway and 21 MPG city, which falls well short of the Toyota offering.

The Toyota Camry delivers its audio entertainment through the 6-speaker sound system, offering more speakers than the Ford Fusion, which only has four in its base trim. Each vehicle features an intuitive dashboard-mounted screen with voice recognition abilities, the Toyota Camry with Entune™ and the Ford Fusion with SYNC®.

In its latest iteration, the Fusion does offer more features than ever before. In later trims, we see it offering up a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot so that you can stay connected to the internet while on the go. It also offers HD Radio™ technology. However, when it comes to infotainment add-ons, the Camry takes the lead.

In its base trim, this smart Toyota sedan has features like the Scout® GPS Link App and Siri® Eyes Free. These features enable touchscreen navigation and seamless phone integration, so that your car can actually read texts for you.

The extras infotainment features in the Camry tend to make it easier to connect your phone and access your favorite apps while you’re on the go.

Safety Features

In terms of passenger protection, each vehicle is equipped with an advanced airbag system that adjusts the inflation pressure of the front airbags to help compensate for the severity of a collision.

Each vehicle features front airbags, side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags, and even knee airbags for the driver and front passenger. However, the Toyota Camry offers additional protection because it also includes side-impact airbags for the rear passengers, not just the ones in the front.

Each sedan also features a few braking systems designed to keep their drivers in control during slippery road conditions. When the vehicle endures a loss of traction, their respective stability and traction control systems active to provide brake pressure to the slipping wheel while helping the vehicle regain traction. These systems also reduce engine speed to help prevent the vehicle from straying from its path.

The Toyota Camry features technology like this in addition to a few others that the Fusion does not offer. For example, Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking is a feature that not only monitors blind spots when cruise control is engaged but can hit the brakes to avoid a rear collision.

In the latest iterations of both the Camry and Fusion, many of the same features are offered. However, it’s the Camry that has experimented to include the more advanced technologies.
